TEMPO.CO, New York - A Canadian citizen who forgot to bring his passport claimed to make it past the border into the United States using a passport that he had copies of documents scanned into his iPad.
Martin Reisch from Montreal showed a copy of his passport is in the iPad to the United States border officials. That was done after realized he was not carrying his passport.
Reisch told border officials that he was heading for Vermont, United States, to deliver Christmas gifts. According to Reisch, the officer finally allow him entry into the United States.
»I think, at least I tried it," said Reisch. »He (the officer) to take the iPad into a small guard post at the border. He was there about five to six minutes. For me, it feels very long. But when he returned, he paused and then said Merry Christmas to me. "
Reisch said the officer made an exception.
Canadians need more than just a driving license (SIM) as an identity for entry into the territory of the United States since 2009. Border Protection Agency and U.S. Customs says they only accept a passport, a special driver's license, or a Nexus card for Canadians who want to enter the United States. However, the list does not mention a copy of the passport.
Agency spokesman for Customs and Border Protection United States has not responded to questions from The Associated Press a copy of the passport is allowed.
Reisch, 33, confessed to scan his passport a few years ago in anticipation of a passport is stolen while he was traveling. He also admitted a copy of his passport on the iPad is also used to re-enter Canada. However, he doubted it would be able to apply again.
