ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Prime Minister's Office apparently had sent letters containing powdered anthrax virus. Deadly virus is transmitted by a female lecturer at a university.

The incident occurred in October last year. According to Akram Shaheedi, a spokesman for the office of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, there were no casualties in this incident.

"No one was hurt in the incident and the motive of the perpetrators of the anthrax sender is also not known," said Akram Shaheedi told AAP on Thursday (02/02/2012).

Shaheedi said, when it carried out tests on the package at the Council of Scientific Industrial Research and Pakistan, confirmed that the powder was still in the package it was anthrax.

Shaheedi claimed it received a package in October 2011. He did not explain why only now that the announcement of the event. Shaheedi also did not announce the fate of female teachers in the province of Sindh University Jamshoro it.

Militants and other insurgents often carry out attacks in Pakistan territory in recent years. But they rarely send letters or packages that contain toxic materials.
