Seven Killed in Explosion Near Police Station in Kandahar

TRIBUNNEWS.COM - At least seven people were killed, and nineteen others were wounded by car bomb explosion that occurred in the city of Kandahar, Afghanistan, Sunday (05/02/2012). The entire offering is comprised of five police officers and two civilians.

According to an official, quoted by the BBC, the blast occurred near a parking lot not far from the local police station. The death toll is predicted to continue rising due to the rescue and evacuation of victims is still ongoing.

"There are a number of casualties. Currently, we have closed the roads around the site and took the injured to hospital," said the officer.

A resident, who was on the scene when the explosion, the explosion shortly reveals himself heard gunfire for several minutes.

But the authorities do not yet know the origin of the explosion. "I could justify a very strong explosion did occur at all. But we do not have much more detailed information at this time," said a spokesman for the Office of the Governor of Kandahar, Zalmay Ayubi.
